ALBANY, N.Y. — Organizations across New York are being invited to spotlight Black history and the ongoing fight for justice through a new online calendar from the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State.
The Freedom 2027 Online Calendar is part of a multi-year initiative marking two hundred years since the abolition of slavery in New York State.
The calendar will promote public programs, educational events, cultural celebrations and community conversations happening statewide over the next two years.
URCNYS leadership said, “Black History Month invites us to reflect on the past while recommitting ourselves to shaping the future. The Freedom 2027 calendar is a tool to bring visibility to the powerful work happening in communities across the state and to ensure that the story of abolition in New York is widely known, shared and understood.”
The Consortium is encouraging museums, historic sites, schools, faith-based groups, cultural organizations and grassroots groups to submit their events for inclusion.
Event submissions are now being accepted and will be promoted throughout the Freedom 2027 commemoration period.
