ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for all of New York on Friday, as forecasters warned a massive winter storm would affect more than half the country.
“This is a very dangerous combination of heavy snow and extreme, extreme cold temperatures, and the risks are so intense that as I’m standing here right now, I’m declaring a state of emergency throughout the entire state of New York,” said Hochul, D-New York.
The storm is forecast to bring snow, sleet and ice from Texas to New England. Forecasters warn the damage could rival a hurricane, especially in areas hit by ice.
More than 1,000 flights were delayed or canceled across the country on Friday, with more expected on Saturday.
People are stocking up on water, food and generators as they prepare for the storm.
