As of 3:55 p.m., New York City’s temperature is 18 degrees — though it feels more like 4 degrees, according to The Weather Channel.
Sunday night will be even chillier with a predicted dip to just 11 degrees.
The snowy sleet is expected to peter out around 11 p.m., just after the last Broadway shows close their doors for the night.
New York has been in a state of emergency since Friday, Jan. 23, under the direction of Gov. Kathy Hochul.
“Winter in New York is nothing we can’t handle, but it is important to take the risks that come with extreme cold seriously,” Hochul said on Friday. “New Yorkers should avoid travel during the snow, especially with the danger that comes with being stranded in these cold temperatures. If you must travel, be sure to leave yourself extra travel time and pack your car with supplies like blankets, water, and snacks. Safety is always the top priority, so make sure you are ready to face this storm.”
Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed that at least five people died since the weekend’s below-freezing chills began, with around a foot of snow expected to rock the five boroughs.
