STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Students at the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook, have formed a new Turning Point USA charter at the campus.

Turning Point USA is an organization founded by Charlie Kirk to mobilize young, Christian conservatives. After Kirk was assassinated on Sept. 10 during an event at Utah Valley University, thousands of high school and college students reached out to form new Turning Point USA chapters across the country — including those at the College of Staten Island, who formed the charter in the fall 2025 semester.

Jasmine Robinson, female district leader of New York state Assembly District 61 covering the North Shore, brought concerns of the new charter to social media.

“I am very concerned about Turning Point USA having a chapter here on Staten Island,” Robinson told the Advance/SILive.com. “The basis that they have in the chapter is to promote nonpartisan dialogue, support American pride — patriotism. But when I see that in the lens of being a Black and Cuban woman, I see it not supporting American values. I don’t see it being fair and nonpartisan. I see that it’s very partisan, very slated, very one-sided.”

Robinson shared concerns about who would come to the campus if the charter holds events.

“I’m very concerned about that, we don’t need any more division on this Island. We don’t need any outside influence to come here and pour gasoline on the tense climate out here on Staten Island,” she added.

A spokesperson for the College of Staten Island stated that Turning Point USA is a registered student organization “governed by the same policies that apply to all student clubs and organizations.”

“No safety concerns or complaints have come up since its establishment,” said the spokesperson for CSI. “Student clubs at CSI reflect a variety of interests. The College supports free expression and expects all organizations to maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.”

Neither the Turning Point USA charter at the College of Staten Island nor the Turning Point USA national organization responded to a request for comment.

Wagner College, Grymes Hill, stated it does not have a Turning Point USA charter.
