QUEENS, NY — Police shot a knife-wielding man who lunged at them inside a home in Queens Monday morning.

The incident happened outside a home on Parsons Boulevard near 85th Avenue in Briarwood around 10:30 a.m.

Officers were called to the scene for an “emotionally disturbed person” at the home.

A 22-year-old man was given repeated warnings to drop the knife. A family member even attempted to restrain the man but was unsuccessful, according to police.

“The armed male was able to push through a closed door and continued to push toward the officers with the kitchen knife in hand. At this point, the officers discharged their weapons at the armed male,” Assistant Chief Christopher Mcintosh, commanding officer of the NYPD’s Patrol Borough Queens South, said.

The 22-year-old man was shot multiple times and was taken to Jamaica Medical Center in stable condition.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a social media post said he’d been briefed on the shooting and was grateful to “the first responders who put themselves on the line each day to keep our communities safe.”

“The NYPD is assessing the situation, and we are committed to keeping New Yorkers informed as we learn more.”

An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
