NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — The dig out from the winter snowstorm continued on Tuesday morning.
More than 2,000 workers from the New York City Department of Sanitation have been working 12-hour shifts to continue clearing snow throughout the five boroughs and in time for the morning commute.
The winter storm dumped as much as 13 inches of snow in New York City and 15 inches on Long Island. DSNY has since activated 551 emergency snow shovelers to help dig out New Yorkers.
As residents returned to work and New York City Public School students returned to in-person classes, commuters have reported bus stops still covered in mounds of snow.

While subway service remains on track, LIRR and Metro-North continued to have weather-related delays and cancellations on Tuesday.
A Code Blue remains in effect in New York City as arctic air brings dangerously low temperatures for the rest of the week. At least 8 people have died during the extreme cold and winter storm since Friday.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani reminded New Yorkers to continue exercising caution on the roads and to call 311 if they see someone in need of shelter.
