New York State Bar Association Gravely Concerned About the Impact of the Government Shutdown on the Courts
10.21.2025
Kathleen Sweet, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement today about the government shutdown:
“Because of the continuing government shutdown, our federal courts cannot maintain full operations. While certain limited functions will still be performed — including those that protect human life and property — the inability of our courts to operate fully and provide justice on a daily basis is a grave concern to the New York State Bar Association. We call on Congress to end the shutdown. The operations of our federal courts – and access to justice for all Americans — must not be subject to the vagaries of politics.”
