Three people were injured in Manhattan Tuesday afternoon after a 86-year-old driver of a U-Haul minivan plowed into a yellow cab and then veered onto a sidewalk, damaging several structures, police said.
The elderly driver, heading west on East 57th St. in Midtown, rear-ended the taxi in the middle of the block at 3:03 p.m., near the intersection of East 57th St. and Madison Ave., cops said. The U-Haul driver then reversed right into a Toyota Sedan that had a passenger inside before accelerating forward onto the sidewalk, hitting several structures — and fleeing the scene.
In the mayhem, the driver rammed into a bus sign that toppled, striking a 33-year-old woman pedestrian, police said.
EMS rushed the U-haul driver, the pedestrian and the 51-year-old taxi driver to a local hospital. All where in stable condition, officials said.
There were no immediate arrests as the investigation continues, cops said.
