QUEENS (VINNEWS) – A rabbi was assaulted earlier today in Queens in what authorities are investigating as a hate crime, officials said.

The identity of the rabbi was not immediately available.

Queens Shomrim said it received a report of the assault around 2:30 p.m. and that its volunteers responded immediately.

After the suspect fled the scene, volunteers located him at a nearby train station and notified police.

The NYPD arrested the suspect, and charges are pending. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the attack, calling it an act of hate and emphasizing that such incidents will not be tolerated in the city.
