No children were injured after a school bus caught fire on Tuesday afternoon in Brooklyn Center.
Just before 3 p.m., the Brooklyn Center Fire Department responded to a school bus on fire near the intersection of 55th Avenue and Brooklyn Boulevard.
Authorities say the bus driver, with help from bystanders, evacuated eight children from the bus and moved them safely onto a sidewalk.
Metro Transit provided a bus to keep the children warm, while Brooklyn Center police helped reunite them with their parents at an elementary school nearby.
Fire crews extinguished the fire within about 15 minutes. The fire department said the bus was a total loss, but there were no injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it was likely caused by a mechanical issue near the engine.
