STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Opening arguments were heard Monday in the trial of a Staten Island man and former Olympic boxer who is charged in the 2019 strangulation death of his adult daughter.

The defendant, now 57-year-old Kabary Salem, is facing a top count of first-degree murder, in addition to alternative charges of third-degree murder and voluntary manslaughter. The deceased, 25-year-old Ola Salem, was discovered by a passerby in Bloomingdale Park.
