BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A salt-spreader truck equipped with a snow plow ran into an Amazon cargo e-bike in Brooklyn Heights on Wednesday afternoon, sending the bike operator to the hospital.
The incident occurred on Hicks Street near Orange Street in the North Heights, where the Amazon employee had been making deliveries. Traffic was snarled on Hicks Street while the investigation was underway.
According to a New York City Fire Department spokesperson, FDNY received the 911 call of a motor vehicle accident at 2:28 p.m.
The cargo e-bike operator was transported to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and their condition was unknown at press time.
According to the New York City Department of Sanitation, roughly 700 salt spreaders and more than 2,000 snow plows were working on city streets during the weekend’s snowstorm. A New York State fact sheet says a plow truck loaded with salt weighs more than 10 tons, making it difficult to maneuver or stop quickly.

Who is Nicholas Deml, the newly named Rikers ‘remediation manager’?
