New York Police Request Help to Identify Memorial Plaque

VERONA, N.Y. — A bronze memorial plaque was found along Rt. 365 and turned in to New York State Police.

A citizen discovered the heavy plaque in the Town of Verona and brought it to troopers on Oct. 13, 2025, after trying to research its ownership.

The plaque reads:

In Memory of Harold B. Cole

Born April 29, 1916

Died serving his country June 8, 1943

“Presented by his comrades”

Troopers believe the plaque likely came from a monument, memorial site or similar permanent display because of its weight and construction.

No information has been found about how the plaque ended up in Oneida County.

NYSP are asking anyone who recognizes the plaque or knows where it may have come from to call 315-366-6000 and reference case number NY2501025152.
