Striking New York City Nurses ‘Hold Day Of Action To Protest ICE’

While there is still no end in sight with the New York City Nurses’ Strike that is taking place at several Hospitals, WABC-TV reports those Nurses represented by the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) held a Day of Action protest on Thursday (January 29th) in New York City to protest ICE. The Nurses were joined by several local members of Congress to also demand ICE be kept out of the Hospitals to protect care for Immigrant patients. “We are horrified by ICE interfering with patient care in California and canvassing parking lots at Federally-qualified Health Clinics in Chicago. We know that the fear of encountering ICE already caused our Mount Sinai patients to delay or stop seeking care,” Mount Sinai Nurse Lillian Espinoza said. Later that evening, the Nurses gathered at the Veterans Administration’s (VA) New York Harbor Healthcare Center for a vigil for Alex Pretti, the VA Nurse killed in Minneapolis by Border Control Agents.
