(NEXSTAR) – English musician Brian May, the lead guitar player for Queen, hinted that the band probably would not perform in the U.S. in the near future, if at all.
“America is a dangerous place at the moment, so you have to take that into account,” the 78-year-old rock legend told the Daily Mail.
“It’s very sad because I feel like Queen grew up in America and we love it, but it’s not what it was,” he continued. “Everyone is thinking twice about going there at the moment.”

The Daily Mail did not say what prompted May’s comments, nor if they were referencing the recent killings of Minneapolis residents Renee Good or Alex Pretti by federal immigration officials deployed to Minnesota. The musician, however, has previously suggested that he was not a fan of President Trump, and had called out Trump’s campaign for using “We Are the Champions” during the 2016 presidential primaries.
“I will make sure we take what steps we can to dissociate ourselves from Donald Trump’s unsavoury campaign,” May remarked on his official website, The Guardian reported at the time.
The guitarist last performed in the U.S. in 2025, appearing with “Beautiful Things” singer Benson Boone during the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. Queen, with Adam Lambert on lead vocals, had also toured the U.S. in 2019 and 2023.
Speaking with Rolling Stone in 2025, May had also expressed a desire to perform a residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas, telling the outlet that Queen was taking part in “conversations” about it.
I’m very keen on the Sphere,” he told the magazine. “It’s got my mind working.”
May, meanwhile, said he doesn’t know the next time Queen will take the stage at all, let alone in the U.S.
“It’s an unknown,” he told the Daily Mail. “We’ll take it day by day.”
