State Senator Griffo Pushes for Utility Cost Relief in New York

WHITESBORO, N.Y. — State Sen. Joe Griffo is pushing for new ways to lower utility costs for residents.

Griffo said local lawmakers are proposing ideas to the governor that include a tax holiday to freeze taxes for a year, using climate funds to provide relief for ratepayers and conducting audits of energy companies along with legislative hearings for oversight.

“I know there is cost associated with running the utility, but we have to figure this out. New Jersey’s done it. The governor of NJ stood up and took action,” Griffo said.

“This governor can do the same, and that’s what we’re advocating. Don’t say it, show it,” he said.

The Utica mayor, Oneida County executive and representatives from the State Assembly also attended the event at Hart’s Hill Inn.
