It’s not something Jesse Malin ever thought he would be doing: making his off-Broadway debut in an autobiographical show called “Silver Manhattan.”

But after a seven-show sold out run at the Gramercy Theatre, “Silver Manhattan” is moving a further downtown for more performances.

What You Need To Know

Jesse Malin’s “Silver Manhattan” begins a limited six-week engagement at the Bowery Palace on Feb. 18

The singer-songwriter also has a memoir — “Almost Grown: A New York Memoir” — coming out on April 7

He will appear at Strand Bookstore for a book event on April 8

“It’s a love letter to New York. But it’s really my story, you know, a kid growing up in Queens that wanted to play music, and come into the city where all the clubs were at a young age. And then getting to do that for a while and going from CBGBs to Madison Square Garden,” said Malin, who first performed with the New York hardcore band Heart Attack, and then with the glam punk group D Generation, before going solo in the early 2000s.

Malin tells those stories and recalls the rare spinal stroke he suffered in May 2023, which left him paralyzed below the waist. He has been fighting back ever since, including triumphant comeback performances at the Beacon Theatre in December 2024.

“Silver Manhattan” will now be staged at Bowery Palace, a new 100-seat theatre and live music venue, formerly Bowery Electric. Malin says Bowery Palace will continue to be a live music venue, as well as acting as an off-Broadway theatre.

“The train had left the station with us doing the seven shows. You just learn you are kind of tightening things up, and it’s really a pleasure to work with a whole team like this, with such good people and everybody fighting for this, to help me tell this story, which is so personal, but the idea is that anyone can relate. Anyone going through hardships, finding ways to overcome, human beings just helping, and the support that I got was incredible,” Malin said.

The Whitestone, Queens native also has a book coming out on April 7 — “Almost Grown: A New York Memoir.” It’s something else he worked on during his recovery.

Malin will make an appearance April 8 for an event at the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan.

“There’s a lot of heroes in it. It’s a love letter to my mom. It’s also about a lot of the characters I met along the way. Not just the famous people but the people who impacted your life, who have so much to say with a lot of style and attitude,” said Malin, who added the book is also about surviving, like “Silver Manhattan.”

The show runs from Feb. 18 through March 29 in a limited six-week engagement. Malin says he’s keeping busy, trying to get by being as close to the life he had.

“I was a fast-walking, pretty independent New Yorker and that definitely is different, but whenever I can, when I’m up there, and I’m on the stage and I’m with the band and I feel the lights and hear the crowd, I forget about all that stuff, the pain goes away,” he said.
