PROSPECT LEFFERTS GARDENS – AN 81-YEAR-OLD WOMAN was found dead shortly after midnight on Friday after a fire broke out on the fourth floor of a Prospect Lefferts Gardens apartment building, News 12 reports. The blaze, at 35 Winthrop St., was reported by neighbors, who said they smelled smoke. First responders discovered the woman unconscious and unresponsive and pronounced her deceased at the scene. Five other people sustained minor injuries, according to Patch.
Neighbors also said the apartment that caught fire was known in the building to be cluttered.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released. The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.Â
