Queen’s University Belfast has officially cut ties with former U.S. Senator George Mitchell, citing his associations with the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. The decision comes in response to fresh revelations from the U.S. Justice Department’s latest release of documents related to Epstein.

The university announced plans to remove Mitchell’s name from the Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice and to dismantle his commemorative bust. These actions reflect the institution’s sensitivity toward victims and survivors, despite no formal allegations of misconduct against Mitchell.

Furthermore, while a spokesperson maintained Mitchell never interacted with Epstein’s accuser Virginia Giuffre, the US-Ireland Alliance also decided to dissociate from Mitchell. His significant role in the 1998 Good Friday Agreement remains undisputed despite these developments.
