STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Stapleton man headed toward trial in a 2024 manslaughter case got testy with prosecutors Friday during an evidentiary hearing in state Supreme Court, St. George.

Carlos “Shorty” Rivera, 38, of Targee Street in Stapleton, is charged in connection with the June 17, 2024, stabbing death of a man known to him. Rivera was arrested on murder charges, but a grand jury elected to indict him on a lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter.
