Queen Maxima of the Netherlands put a muted, Mod spin on her ordinarily whimsical style for a visit to Rotterdam alongside her husband, King Willem-Alexander, on Monday.

For the outing, the Netherlands’ queen consort wore a coordinated dress and cape in a shade of gray by French designer Vanessa Seward. The Vic dress and Van cape hail from the winter capsule collection for Begg x Co., per Seward’s Instagram post about Queen Maxima’s look.

The designer also noted the sentimental significance of Queen Maxima’s sartorial choice — she wore Seward’s design on her 24th wedding anniversary. Queen Maxima added a nostalgic touch to her look, donning her wedding-day earrings.

As for footwear, the Dutch royal styled a pair of black leather knee boots by Gianvito Rossi. Queen Maxima’s modern gray motif with accents of black and her sentimental jewelry touch is a slight departure from the European royal’s average fashion statement.

Queen Maxima often favors colorful displays and whimsical variations on daytime dress, from vibrant blue pantsuits by Max Mara to textural midi dresses with statement headpieces and more by Natan.

Twenty-four years ago on Monday, King Willem-Alexander married Queen Maxima in civil and religious ceremonies in Amsterdam. For the religious ceremony, the Netherlands’ queen consort wore an ivory Mikado silk wedding gown designed by Valentino Garavani. Among special guests, King Charles III, then the Prince of Wales, attended the wedding alongside his brother, Prince Edward, and sister-in-law Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

The Dutch royal couple were updated on various social initiatives supported by the Oranje Fonds in recent years and to mark their 250th anniversary as patrons of the fund during their visit to Rotterdam’s Wijkpaleis community center on Monday.
