A fatal crash in Syracuse is now being investigated by New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office. It started around 2:30 Tuesday morning on Avery Avenue. The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were attempting to stop a stolen van that was fleeing.Â

5. House passes spending package to end partial shutdown
The House voted Tuesday to pass the $1.2 trillion Senate-revised government funding package and end a partial government shutdown. By a vote of 217 to 214, the House funded most of the federal government through Sept. 30 and the Department of Homeland Security for two weeks as lawmakers negotiate potential changes for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Syracuse falls to No. 14 North Carolina, 87-77
Caleb Wilson had 22 points and nine rebounds as No. 14 North Carolina held off Syracuse 87-77 on Monday night after building a 32-point lead midway through the second half. Syracuse shaved the deficit to six with 42 seconds remaining before the Tar Heels finally closed it out from the free-throw line.
