INWOOD, Manhattan (PIX11) — Snow around New York City is being picked up and dumped into industrial-sized snow melters, also known as hot tubs.

The mounds of snow are filtered for debris and melted with the water to drain right into the sewer system. The Department of Sanitation has sent these hot tubs out to every borough and is working overtime to clear the frozen snow mounds.

DSNY is also asking New Yorkers dig out their vehicles while Alternate Side Parking is still suspended.

A temperature drop is coming this weekend, which will only make that tedious task harder.

The Department of Sanitation says trash and compost collection remains on schedule, but pickup times may differ because crews are working overnight on snow removal.

Meanwhile, the City says recycling is delayed about 24 hours.

As frigid temperatures are set to make a comeback, the National Weather Service warns residents to beware of patchy black ice on roads, sidewalks and parking lots.
