The Manhattan Optimist Prime softball team played in Wamego on Sunday and came away with second-place medals.

In the first pool play game, Prime faced the Topeka Vipers, winning 14-2. Kayleigh Blair got the win on the mound. Lila Lewis was behind the plate for the entire tournament. Offense came up strong; Maddie Fobes, Lila Lewis and Lillie Foster all had a single and a double in the game. Olivia Kline added two singles. Kelbi Dettmer, Hailey Worden, Ember Conger, and Lewis singled; Hailey Van Dusen had a double.

In the second pool play game, Prime faced the eventual tournament champions, Clay Center B’s, losing 11-0. Conger pitched. Three singles were the only offense from Prime: Fobes, Lewis and Van Dusen.

In bracket play, Prime faced the Wamego Outlaws and won a hard-fought game, 8-7. Conger got the pitching win and helped herself with two singles on offense. Knylah Wilhoite, Fobes, Dettmer, and Foster all singled. The catcher, Lewis, added a single and a double.

In the championship game, Clay Center took the trophy with a 12-3 win. Conger was the starting pitcher with relief from Blair. Fobes, Lewis and Worden had two singles each. Conger, Blair, Kline, Van Dusen and Wilhoite all singled.

Prime plays next in Derby to finish the fall season. Jeff Brummett, Rory Fobes and Todd Kline are the Prime coaches.
