The men’s curling team from the United States has only brought home the gold medal once before. Can this year’s team led by a New York native do it again?
Danny Casper, 24, leads the men’s team of curlers at the Milan Cortina Olympics, hungry to try and bring back gold for Team USA. John Shuster led the U.S. men to gold for the very first time by defeating Sweden at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games.
In order to punch his ticket to Italy, Casper and his team had to take down Team Shuster at the U.S. Olympic Curling Trials. Team Shuster has competed for the U.S. at the last five consecutive Olympic Games.
Casper’s team is also made up of Luc Violette, Ben Richardson and Aidan Oldenburg. Rich Ruohonen is an alternate.
Casper, a Westchester native, has curling in his blood. Carla Casper, his great aunt, competed at the 1988 Winter Olympics and her husband, Tom Casper, coached the U.S. men’s team at the 1998 Games.
Casper’s dad signed him up for curling when he was 12 years old.
