New Yorkers can get a taste of Carnival for one weekend only, thanks to a New Orleans eyewear brand.
Krewe opened its New York flagship store in 2022 and has been throwing an annual crawfish boil at the Gansevoort Street location.
Now, NYC shoppers can grab a cool pair of sunglasses and a New Orleans king cake at Krewe’s two-day Mardi Gras pop-up on Saturday and Sunday.
Krewe worked with Dong Phuong, Haydel’s Bakery and Breads on Oak to provide a variety of king cakes to people of New York. The store wasn’t sure how many people would be interested in the king cakes, so they started with 75 cakes available for pre-order.
“We sold out of pre-orders literally within days. Dong Phuong sold out within an hour,” Krewe spokesperson Arianna Wynne said.
Krewe posted on Instagram about its pop-up sale on Thursday and shared that its pre-orders were sold out on Tuesday. So, Krewe called the bakeries and managed to get a few dozen more for people to purchase at the pop-up sale.
“We weren’t expecting people to go crazy over them,” Wynne added.
Wynne said Krewe is already looking ahead to next year and securing more cakes after seeing how popular this concept was.
