NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced his endorsement of incumbent Kathy Hochul for the 2026 New York gubernatorial election.
The announcement came in an op-ed piece published in The Nation on Friday and just a day after Hochul announced former City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams as her running mate for lieutenant governor.
“…together, we have forged a new era in the relationship between Albany and City Hall after too many years defined by pettiness instead of productivity,” wrote Mamdani. “At a moment of crisis, we chose a different path. We respected one another’s perspectives and committed to the idea that government should, and must, work — even when it’s hard.”
Mamdani praised Hochul for their joint work in delivering universal childcare and fighting to protect New Yorkers from ICE. While admitting the two have some differences, particularly when it comes to raising taxes on the wealthy, Mamdani touted their partnership as one in which they could still work together to serve their constituents.

“From day one, my focus has been on delivering for New York families, making our state a place where kids can grow up safe and where families have every opportunity to thrive,” wrote Hochul in a statement after the announcement.
“Mayor Mamdani understands that we need to build a New York that everyone can afford – I’m grateful for his partnership in finally bringing universal child care to New York, and I know that he’ll stand strong alongside me as we fight against Donald Trump’s attacks on this state.”
