STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul’s inflation refund check is en route to your mailbox.
Yes, that’s right: Hochul is refunding eight million New York taxpayers some money to combat inflationary prices.
“While inflation has driven prices higher, sapping the income of New Yorkers, it has also driven sharp increases in the state’s collection of sales tax. Governor Hochul believes that money belongs to hardworking New York families and should be returned to their pockets as an inflation refund,” a written statement explained in April.
As a result, the following taxpayers will receive a check of a varying amount depending on their filing status and income:
Joint tax filers:Income up to $150,000: $400 checkIncome over $150,000 but no more than $300,000: $300 checkSingle tax filers:Income up to $75,000: $200 checkIncome over $75,000 but no more than $150,000: $150 check
“The cost of living is still too damn high, so I promised to put more money in your pockets – and we got it done,” Hochul said in May. “…When I said your family is my fight, I mean it – and I’ll never stop fighting for you.”
No action is necessary to receive the check, as it will be delivered to the address listed on your most recent tax return. All you need to do is keep an eye on your mailbox this fall, with the checks set to be mailed over a period of several weeks beginning in mid-October.
