STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — After hitting a rough patch in the schedule and dropping two straight games, Moore Catholic rebounded Thursday night with convincing 76-43 CHSAA AA victory over host St. Joseph Hill behind a balanced scoring attack.
Allie Felci led the Mavericks with 23 points, including five treys, and nine rebounds. Emma Costanzo added 13 points, six assists and five rebounds, while Emma Bruno-Dunn contributed 11 points and nine rebounds.
Alyssa Ragona and Veronica Barbato each finished with 10 points to give Moore five players in double figures.
“This was a very good win, we played extremely well and were solid on both ends of the floor,” said Moore assistant coach Amanda Henderson, who will be filling in for a few games while her father, Gene Henderson (the Mavs’ head coach), is dealing with some health issues. “The team and I really wanted to have a strong game for Coach Gene. My dad has prepared both me and this team for moments like this, so everyone was ready. With experienced leaders like Emma Costanzo and the Felci sisters, they made it really easy to step in. I was proud of the way the entire team competed and supported one another.”
The victory improves the Mavericks’ record to 9–0 in CHSAA AA league play and 14–4 overall.
“We are facing a challenging weekend ahead, taking on Xaverian in the Pink Games at Molloy High School on Saturday before traveling to St. John’s Prep on Sunday for another CHSAA AA league matchup,” added Amanda Henderson.
