New York State Police

UTICA, N.Y. — Law enforcement will increase patrols and set up sobriety checkpoints to target impaired and reckless drivers during Super Bowl weekend.

New York State Police announced the STOP-DWI enforcement campaign will run from Friday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 8, with funding from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.

Troopers plan to use both marked vehicles and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement vehicles, which help spot drivers using handheld devices.

The campaign will also include enforcement against underage drinking.

During the 2025 Super Bowl campaign, State Police arrested 161 people for impaired driving and issued 8,663 tickets.

An impaired driving conviction can result in a maximum $10,000 fine, up to 7 years in prison and license revocation.

“Remember, if you serve a guest alcohol and he or she gets in a crash that night, you could be held liable. If an underage person drinks and drives, the parent or guardian can be legally liable for any damage, injury or death caused by the underage driver,” NYSP added.
