CITYWIDE — NEW YORK CITY LOGGED more than 144,000 lab-confirmed flu cases so far this respiratory virus season, with 1,400-plus reported in the week ending Jan. 31, even after six straight weeks of declines, the City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said. Children under 18 account for 52% of cases, and the city is reporting four pediatric flu deaths for the first time this season.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) activity is highest among kids under 5, while COVID-19 case counts remain low at about 700 last week. Officials urged vaccination, masking when sick and good hygiene.
