I’ve lived in New York City every day of my life, and there’s no denying it’s an incredibly expensive place to live. Everything is going to cost you, from rent to utilities to putting food on the table.
But for just a few days, that’s about to get easier for anyone who takes advantage of an incredible limited-time opportunity.
The Polymarket is the first completely free grocery store to open in New York City, and it’ll be available as a five-day pop-up between February 12 and February 16. And, yes, they promise it’ll be open to everyone and will require no advance purchase or registration.
I know, as a New Yorker, I’m primed to assume something like this is too good to be true, but this is actually legit and 100% real. The actual location of this pop-up has yet to be revealed, though, but at a time that a scary amount of New Yorkers quality as food insecure, according to city data, it’s safe to say a lot of people will be paying attention and looking for information as it is revealed.
“The activation is the result of months of planning — from securing permits and building out a dedicated retail space to coordinating logistics and nonprofit partnerships — and represents a direct investment in the city where Polymarket was founded and scaled,” the company shared in a press release, as reported by Business Insider.
“The Polymarket is fully stocked. No purchase required. We’re open to all New Yorkers. A real, physical investment in our community,” read a social media post.
Interestingly, this isn’t even the only way to get free groceries in New York City this week. Kalshi just gave $50 worth of free groceries to a bunch of people at Westside Market a few days ago.
Hey, if everyone wants to do battle to make groceries more accessible, I’m here for that.
