More than 4,400 New Yorkers registered to attend the inaugural NYC Contracting Summit, hosted by the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS), aimed at expanding access to contracting opportunities for small businesses citywide.
Open to Harlem residents as well, this free summit connected New York City-based entrepreneurs — including Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) — with public and private sector contracting opportunities and business support services. In total, 93 exhibitors participated, including 53 city and state agencies, making it the largest procurement-focused event in city history.

During the summit, SBS Commissioner Dynishal Gross announced that Middle Eastern- and North African-owned (MENA) businesses can now self-identify in the city’s Procurement and Sourcing Solutions Portal (PASSPort), a first for the platform. The new category is available to both new and existing PASSPort users.
The event featured workshops on finding and winning contracts, networking with government contracting agents, and access to free resources such as financing assistance, legal consultations, mentoring, and capacity-building support.
Speakers included Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su, Chief Business Diversity Officer Michael Garner, Assembly Member Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn, Gregg Bishop of the Joe and Clara Tsai Foundation’s Social Justice Fund, and small business owner Eddie Song.
