HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) — The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is telling residents to plan ahead. Starting late this week, every DMV office in the state will temporarily shut down for a major technology system upgrade.
According to the DMV, all in-person offices, phone support, and online services will be unavailable starting Friday, February 13 at 2:00 P.M. The shutdown will continue through Tuesday, February 17.
That means customers will not be able to renew licenses, register vehicles, process REAL IDs, schedule appointments, or complete any other DMV transactions during the outage.
The DMV expects operations to resume at the start of business on Wednesday, February 18.
Anyone who needs time-sensitive DMV services is encouraged to complete transactions before the shutdown begins.
