Yesterday, Maimonides Health celebrated the grand opening of its expanded Children’s Emergency Department, now the largest pediatric emergency facility in Brooklyn.

The event was attended by Maimonides President and CEO Ken Gibbs, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, Senator Stephen Chan, Assembly Members Alec Brook-Krasny and William Colton, and Council Members Shahana Hanif and Susan Zhuang. They were joined by hospital staff and community members for a first look inside the state-of-the-art space.

The new department is more than four times the size of the previous one and includes 34 patient rooms equipped with the latest technology. It was designed entirely around the needs of children and families, with separate walk-in and ambulance entrances, on-site imaging including X-ray and ultrasound, and a direct connection to a larger neonatal intensive care unit.

After the ceremony, guests toured the facility and met staff members who will be caring for young patients. The expansion is part of Maimonides’ ongoing effort to grow and modernize its services across Brooklyn, following the recent openings of the Clinton Hill Pavilion and the Psychiatric Emergency Department.
