1. Judge orders Trump administration to restore funding for rail tunnel between New York and New Jersey

A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to restore $16 billion in funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project, siding with New York and New Jersey just as construction was set to halt.

Judge Jeannette Vargas granted a temporary restraining order, calling the project critical infrastructure. The White House had paused funding citing DEI-related concerns and a prior government shutdown.

2. In Queens, fans celebrate Bad Bunny’s historic Super Bowl moment

Bad Bunny headlined the first Super Bowl halftime show performed mainly in Spanish, drawing emotional reactions from fans gathered at Bad Habits in Astoria.

The broadcast, typically watched by more than 100 million viewers, marked a milestone for Latino representation. Fans waved flags, sang along and celebrated Puerto Rican culture. The bar also displayed a replica of the singer’s “La Casita.”

3. Arctic air blasts city, bringing coldest conditions in years

Arctic air brought the coldest temperatures in three years to New York City, with wind chills dropping below zero and gusts up to 50 mph.

An Extreme Cold Warning was issued as the city opened about 60 new hotel shelter units and 62 warming centers. A total of 17 outdoor deaths were reported during the recent cold snap.
