STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — If you received an alert about a January 2025 data breach involving the New York Blood Center, you could be eligible for up to $2,500 in recompense.

The breach involved sensitive information, including things like Social Security numbers, direct deposit information, data about blood types and exam conclusions, and more.

As a result, a class action lawsuit was filed: Dean, et al. v. New York Blood Center Inc., et al.

A settlement was reached, allowing for those impacted to receive payment for the loss of data security out of a fund of $500,000.

Depending on how much information you provide, your payment could range from $20 to $2,500.

If you have proof of monetary losses due to fraud or identity theft between Jan. 26, 2025, and Feb. 11, 2026, you could be eligible for the higher end of the reimbursement.

Otherwise, you can opt for a single $20 payout if you have a “valid claim,” according to the settlement’s website; or you can excuse yourself from the settlement funding altogether.

The settlement website, https://bloodcenterssettlement.com/, offers a bevy of information regarding the lawsuit and the payments, including a timeline of when information should be sent in in order to claim your compensation.

Feb. 11, 2026, is the last day to submit a claim.

Every claimant has been assigned a unique Notice ID and PIN — issued on the notice of the data breach — that they can use to log into their portal to submit a claim.
