BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Queens man will spend the next nine and a half years in New York State prison after pleading guilty to attempted murder.
Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that 19-year-old Shyleek Favor was sentenced on Friday in Broome County Court to a determinate term of nine and a half years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision, in connection with his attempted murder conviction.
On August 16, 2024, Favor was arrested by the Vestal Police Department following a routine traffic stop. A traffic stop was conducted, and Favor was identified as the driver. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered a black Taurus 9mm handgun located under the passenger seat, fully loaded with seven rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber; a black Glock 19 9mm handgun located under the driver’s side of the vehicle, fully loaded with seventeen rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber; and twenty-seven pills, later identified as Oxycodone.
Favor was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. He was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $20,000 bail and was subsequently released after posting bail on September 10, 2024.
A short while later, on November 22, 2024, Favor was arrested by the Binghamton Police Department and charged with Attempted Murder. Favor, while a passenger in a vehicle, discharged five rounds from an illegally possessed firearm in a residential neighborhood, striking
a victim in the buttocks. The projectile exited through the victim’s thigh. Favor was arrested and remanded to the Broome County Jail, where he remained until pleading guilty to the charge on April 28, 2025, with the understanding that he would be sentenced to nine years in prison.
While incarcerated at the Broome County Jail following his plea of guilty, Favor was arrested
on two separate occasions for Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree and Conspiracy in the Fifth Degree.
