STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City launched its 20th annual School Survey, inviting families, students, and educators to share feedback about their experiences through April 1.
The survey helps school leaders understand community perspectives on learning environments and informs improvements to schools and programs. The data is also incorporated into the district’s School Quality Reports, which provide school communities with information about the quality of each school.
“As both a New York City Public Schools parent and lifelong educator, I understand the value of hearing from our families, students, and educators,” said Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels. “For two decades, the School Survey has been an essential tool in helping us understand what is working in our schools and where we need to improve. I encourage everyone to participate – your feedback directly shapes the decisions we make to build a stronger, safer, and more supportive learning environment for all our students.”
The survey is available online in 13 languages to families, teachers, and students in grades 6 through 12. Families will also receive a hard copy from their school.
This year, the district reformatted the student survey to be more concise and user-friendly for young learners, while the family and educator surveys remain mostly unchanged.
To access the survey at www.nycschoolsurvey.org, parents and guardians enter a lowercase “f” followed by their child’s nine-digit OSIS number. Students enter a lowercase “s” followed by their OSIS ID number. The OSIS ID can be found on report cards or student ID cards. Families with children in early childhood education programs will receive a unique access code from their child’s program. Teachers and staff will receive a unique access code from their schools.
Families can also complete the survey through their NYC Schools Account Portal, where they can view their student’s grades and test scores.
Survey results will be shared with school staff in the summer to support planning for the coming school year and will be released publicly later in the year.
