Queens man sentenced prison time for attempted murder after 2024 shooting in Broome County

  • February 10, 2026

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) — A Queens man was sentenced on Friday and will spend nearly a decade in state prison regarding an attempted murder incident back in 2024, according to information from the Broome County District Attorney’s Office.

Shyleek L. Favor, 19, of Queens, was sentenced to nine and a half years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for the charge of attempted murder and various other offenses.

Favor’s conviction and sentencing stem from an arrest on August 16, 2024, when the Vestal Police Department pulled over Favor’s vehicle for several traffic infractions. Favor was seen not wearing a seatbelt, and the license plate on the vehicle was dangling by one bolt, the DA’s office said.

The traffic stop led to a search of the vehicle, where police found a 9mm handgun under the passenger seat, loaded with seven rounds in a magazine and one in the chamber. Another 9mm handgun was found under the driver’s seat, and was loaded with 17 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber as well.

Along with the weapons, 27 pills, later determined to be oxycodone, were found in the car.

Favor was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon and was taken to the Broome County Jail on $20,000 bail. Favor was released after posting bail on September 10, 2024, the DA’s office said.

Two months later, on November 22, 2024, Favor was arrested on the charge of attempted murder by the Binghamton Police Department.

The arrest came after an incident where Favor was the passenger in a vehicle and shot five rounds from an illegally owned gun into a residential neighborhood, hitting a person in the buttocks and having the round go through their thigh, the DA’s office said.

Following Favor’s arrest, he was taken to the Broome County Correctional Facility, where he has remained since the incident.

On April 28, 2025, Favor pled guilty to the attempted murder charge, with the understanding tha the would be sentenced to nine years in state prison and the five years of post-release supervision.

While in the Broome County Correctional Facility, after his guilty plea, Favor was arrested on two different incidents on July 19, 2025, and July 24, 2025.

Favor was arrested on the charges of promoting prison contraband in the first degree and conspiracy in the fifth degree for those instances.

Due to those instances, Favor’s sentence was increased to nine and a half years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision, the DA’s office said.
