A 32-year-old man from the Bronx, N.Y., was arrested Feb. 5 and charged with obtaining property by false pretense.
Henry Obeng allegedly obtained $40,000 in a cashier’s check from Patricia Raynor on Oct. 21, 2024, and promised her a return on the funds knowing that such would never happen, according to an arrest warrant. Raynor is a resident of Lillington, according to a Google search.
The charge was filed Aug. 21, 2025. According to a court document, Obeng was extradited to Harnett County. He is from another country and officials are uncertain as to whether Obeng is in the country legally. As such he may be a flight risk.
He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
