ALBANY, New York (WWNY) – New York State Police issued 8,263 tickets during a special STOP-DWI traffic enforcement initiative conducted over Super Bowl weekend.
The campaign ran from Friday, February 6, 2026, through Sunday, February 8, 2026. State Police increased patrols statewide and conducted sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify, and arrest impaired drivers during the period.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee funded the initiative, which was carried out in coordination with local law enforcement agencies across New York State.
State Troopers arrested 177 drivers for DWI and investigated 822 crashes, including one fatal crash during the enforcement period.
Major violations targeted
Troopers also targeted speeding, aggressive driving, and other dangerous driving behaviors as part of the initiative. Major violations for which tickets were issued included:

During last year’s Super Bowl enforcement campaign, State Police issued 8,663 tickets and arrested 161 drivers for DWI.

New York State Police said impaired driving is never worth the risk. Enforcement efforts are conducted to prevent tragedies and to keep New York’s roadways safe, especially during high-traffic holiday and event weekends.
