STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police are investigating reports that bullets hit a passing car and a business when a gun was fired on a busy street in West Brighton during the Monday evening rush hour.

Officers responded at about 6:43 p.m. to a 911 call of shots fired in the 1200 block of Forest Avenue near Jewett Avenue, according to preliminary information supplied to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

Police said the occupied car sustained property damage.

A garage door also was struck at 1234 Forest Avenue, according to police. The address is home to a Shell gas station, Quick Lube and Repair Center and a convenience store.

A bullet hole was seen on Tuesday morning in the top panel of a garage door at the service station.

An unidentified individual wearing all dark-colored clothing fired a gun at the location. An unknown model vehicle fled the location in an unknown direction, the police spokeswoman said.

No injuries were reported. No arrests have been made, and the investigation continues, the police spokeswoman said.
