Broome County Republican Chairman Benji Federman is on Long Island this week, helping decide who will represent the party in critical races later this year.

Federman and his colleagues are nominating and voting on candidates for State Comptroller, Attorney General, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor.

“The convention is on Long Island and I think there is a tremendous power base here, a lot of swing voters that we need to turn out in order to win statewide,” said Federman, in a Zoom interview with Fox 40. “But then we are going to go back to our districts and our counties after this convention and continue to spread the good word and have this convention really reverberate to success in the next couple of months.”

Federman says the party has nominated Joseph Hernandez for State Comptroller and official voting for Attorney General is set to take place Tuesday afternoon.

Wednesday morning, GOP members will officially vote on candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor. The vote is a mere formality with Bruce Blakeman expected to be the candidate for Governor. Blakeman announced on Monday he has chosen Madison County sheriff Todd Hood as his choice for Lieutenant Governor.

Blakeman is currently the Nassau County Executive.

“(Blakeman) has led Nassau County, which is one of the biggest counties in America, to become one of the safest counties in America,” said Federman. “He has kept taxes low. His ability to govern an incredibly large government, I think, is incredibly important. People want experienced leadership.”

Election day is set for Tuesday, November 3.
