Two teens in Upstate New York have been arrested after stealing a vehicle from a Walmart parking lot, according to New York State Police.

Troopers say a 14-year-old and 15-year-old were arrested Sunday with the assistance of the Watervliet Police Department. The teens are accused of stealing an SUV from the Walmart on Hoosick Road in Brunswick, N.Y., and crashing it, plus stealing another vehicle.

Police say the SUV was reported stolen around 9:26 a.m. Sunday. Troopers patrolling the area found the vehicle around 10:39 a.m., driving on North Pearl Street in Watervliet. Troopers attempted a traffic stop, then a pursuit after the SUV operator failed to comply; police ended the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle.

Watervliet Police said they located the vehicle at 10:53 a.m. after it crashed into another vehicle in the area of 2nd Street. The 14-year-old was identified as the driver, and the 15-year-old as a passenger; both were taken into custody.

During further investigation, police determined that the 15-year-old allegedly stole another vehicle while the pair operated the stolen SUV. The second vehicle was located abandoned less than a block away from where it was stolen.

The 14-year-old was charged with criminal possession of stolen property 3rd, a class “D” felony; reckless endangerment, 2nd, a class “A” misdemeanor; and criminal mischief 4th, a class “A” misdemeanor.

The 15-year-old was charged with grand larceny 3rd, a class “D” felony; and criminal possession of stolen property 3rd, a class “D” felony.

Their names and additional details were not released.

Both juveniles were processed by NYS Police in Latham, then issued appearance tickets returnable to the Albany County Family Court. They have since been released to their guardians.

Brunswick is located in Rensselaer County, about eight miles from Watervliet in Albany County. Both are in New York’s Capital Region.
