UTICA, N.Y. — State troopers issued 8,263 tickets during a special STOP-DWI traffic enforcement campaign over Super Bowl weekend.
New York State Police reported that the campaign took place from Feb. 6 through Feb. 8, with increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints across the state.
During the enforcement period, troopers arrested 177 drivers for DWI and responded to 822 crashes, including one fatal crash statewide.
They also focused on speeding, aggressive driving and other dangerous behaviors.
Troopers issued 2,395 tickets for speeding, 287 for distracted driving, 267 for seatbelt violations and 115 for Move Over Law violations.
Last year, troopers issued 8,663 tickets and made 161 DWI arrests during the Super Bowl campaign.
In Central New York, NYSP made 15 DWI arrests, issued 226 tickets for speeding, 19 for distracted driving, 18 for child restraint and seat belt violations and six for Move Over Law violations, totaling 908 tickets.
