The New York State Conservative Party is endorsing Robert Smullen for Congress in the state’s 21st Congressional District, which includes most of the North Country.

In a press release, the party said that Smullen has met with the majority of county party leaders in NY-21 and that he will be the district’s Conservative Party nominee. The party said that Smullen is committed to President Trump’s domestic and international agenda, as well as his immigration crackdown.

“Locally, Bob Smullen will continue the work of retiring Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, a fierce advocate for her district, who we proudly endorsed in every election she entered,” said the Conservative Party’s press release.

In December, Stefanik dropped out of the New York governor’s race and announced that she’s not running for reelection in NY 21.

Smullen served in the US Marine Corps for 24 years. He was elected as an Assemblyman in 2018 and represents all of Hamilton County as well as parts of Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Oneida and Otsego counties.

Anthony Constantino, the CEO of Sticker Mule, is challenging Smullen for the Republican nomination in the upcoming June primary.Â
