Queen Creek police had been searching for an “armed and dangerous” person believed to be connected with the hit-and-run.
The Mesa Police Department — who is handling the investigation into the officer-involved shooting as part of the East Valley Critical Response Team — identified the man as 23-year-old Gaven Johnson.
According to Mesa police, Johnson had a firearm and shot a round at officers, striking two of them.
One of the officers was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before being discharged. The other was treated at the scene.
