STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Gabe Moschella could have taken the easy way out.

The junior forward was in the midst of a nip-and-tuck fourth quarter when he suffered a leg cramp with just under three minutes left in Staten Island Academy’s ACIS semifinal against visiting Avenues.

He could have received treatment while play continued, but the junior was stretched quickly before returning to the hardwood. Just seconds after the ball was inbounded, Moschella nailed the go-ahead jumper and the host Tigers eventually held on for a 56-53 triumph in Dongan Hills.

SIA, which received a team-high 18 points from Moschella, advanced to its first league championship game since the 2017-18 season. The No. 2 Tigers will now meet top-seeded Dwight for all the marbles on Friday at Grace Church in Manhattan beginning at 7 p.m.
