KINGSBRIDGE, The Bronx (PIX11) — A teenager has died following a shooting that left two others injured in the Bronx on Wednesday, according to the NYPD.
The incident happened around 5:10 p.m. near Broadway and West 238th Street.
Police say a 16-year-old boy who was shot in the back was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Two other teenagers, a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, were both shot in the right leg.
Police have identified the deceased as Christopher Redding of the Bronx.
Regina Hall, a resident who lives in an apartment near the incident, said she heard five gunshots. “I looked out the window, and there were hundreds of kids running up and down here. I’m shocked… it was scary, horrible.”
“It is really heartbreaking as a parent, as a New Yorker, as a resident, as a human, to know that the life of a 16-year-old was lost,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. “This started out as some sort of a fight on the street, and it escalated.”
“We have to look at how we can prevent these incidents from ever happening again. It is sad to say that this is one of so many that have occurred in this borough. Just yesterday, a man was shot and killed on a subway platform in this borough. That is unacceptable. I want to let the residents of the Bronx know that we are doing everything that we can to protect the residents of this borough. Everything is on the line, our children, our families, older adults, innocent people are victims in this society that is plagued by violence, and it is happening here in our borough.”
Gibson says it is believed the two other teenagers will survive and recover.
